My role

I developed the concept and art directed the complete series. I designed the contrast between classical marble sculptures and contemporary inflatable objects, working on the compositions, colours, materials and lighting. I also refined the surface details, giving different levels of transparency and reflection to the printed and clear areas of the PVC while keeping the marble simple and antique.

Description

Soft Invasion explores the collision between classical art and contemporary kitsch. Bright colours and glossy inflatable forms enter the museum and squeeze into the spaces between the marble bodies, wrapping around them and slowly taking over the environment.

The series plays with contrasting ideas: permanent and temporary, precious and disposable, restraint and excess. The sculptures represent an established idea of beauty and cultural value, while the inflatable objects bring something playful, commercial and slightly absurd into the same space.

The project is also a reflection on how contemporary art continues to expand what can enter a museum and what we are prepared to consider valuable.
